What would you consider to be the single greatest invention in the history of the world? Why?

The wonder bra. Just kidding. Books or the written word would definitely be on the top of my list. Without them, there would be no Bible, Encyclopedia, dictionary or novel. No educational reference, pleasure reading, timeless classics or how-to manuals. No written creativity that could be passed along from generation to generation. Yeah, books are the greatest invention to me.

I think the greatest invention of all time is the advancement of computers and technology through internet and web access because it applies to almost everything you do. By using a computer at your house, you can shop online, read, write, copy, and share documents and pictures, listen and download music, search for directions, pay your bills online, play games, work on an online business, invest your money, do research on different topics, and meet different types of people through networking websites and make new friends. Its all there, it made communicating easier by providing e mails, instant messengers, online telephone, online forms, bullitein boards, and chat lines as well as inform people about the latest news and current events around the world by up to date reports and live news channels. It also provides an opportunity for companies to work faster. Computer networks process the job inside a big compay faster by giving each employee a computer to work with. Every thing you could ever think of, the computer can also help advertiese a product, give the current up to date weather for the next day, and it was also made accessible to the blind community by providing talking softwares. Its all about technology. Computers abd the web change the way we live and communicate.

Wow, there are so many, from small ones like spell checking, to, automatic deposit, but to me its music and the many types of instruments that have evolved and just how each country has its own type of sounds and music.

There is a few, but I would have to say:

Capitalism, because without it, we would stuck with a totally regulated market. A free market is good. Trade is voluntary and not completely limited. Every society must have a little bit of capitalism, no matter how little.
I’ll explain it to here, but to find out more, I do suggest you look up Allan Greenspan, he’s brilliant about this sort of thing.

I think books are te gratest invension, just because I love reading and stuff. and the computer too, lol

Post 8 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Sunday, 18-Jan-2009 23:02:09

I absolutely must! agree with post two. The written word and books are the greatest inventions. Without them, we wouldn't really get anywhere.
You wouldn't be able to obtain money, work, pay bills, write, read, entertain, and the list goes on and on for miles!

I think medicines r the greatest eventions. Without medicine, especially modern medicine and doctors that go to school for years learning about it, we wouldn't be able to live for long periods of time like we do now. I agree with previous posters about reading writing, books, and technologies being great ones as well!

wristlet wallets that can also hold your phone because then i don't bruise my leg when i sit with my cell inside my pocket and rush to my dorm to get my school id and check cards and what not.
also, i don't need a big purse if i am going to the city.

it shows how separated we all have become from the basics that no one has picked my most important invention. that is, ta da, fire. without it we would freeze, eat raw meet, drink cold beverages, and not have the energy or the light to create all those books most of you picked. fire is what truly separates us from the animal kingdom.

The second greatest invention to me is music. Music is timeless, it will never die. It changes and grows, but never completely deminishes. So much of our world revolves around music, I just can't imagine life without commercial jingles, movie sound tracks, television show intros and the music that plays when you're on hold. All these things are invaluable to me and I couldn't imagine life without them.

Post 14 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Friday, 01-May-2009 12:07:00

Totally agree with turricane.

It has to be something much more basic than books or computers. Those are Johny-come-latelys.
Maybe the spear or the axe, or the whit stone to sharpen them with. Can't believe noone mentioned gun powder or money.

Of course there's always certain implements of the male and female anatomy that make us different--but I guess those weren't inventions, maybe the person who taught us how to use them. <lol>

Meds, Technology, books, and music. Also the studies and training of dogs to help people who are blind, deaf, and other disabilities.

I might have to say that school was the greatest invention even though its not fun sometimes. But with out school and the teachers in it some of us would get no where in the world.
